调息:通过呼吸控制思维

Pranayama : Control Your Mind Through Your Breath

 

找一个舒服的姿势坐好,关闭眼睛。停下一切动作,关注自己的思维5分钟。你会发现你的思维有多么不稳定。你会见证无数的想法在短时间内汹涌而来,也会发现很难停止胡思乱想。你可能会讨厌自己,可能会讨厌自己的思维。

Hari OmSit comfortably, close your eyes. Don't do anything. Just observe your mind for 5 minutes. You will find how unstable your mind is. You will witness thousand of thoughts are coming and going in short period of time. You will find difficulty to stop thinking for few minutes. You may hate yourself and you may hate your mind.

 

我们大部分人都知道什么是对的,什么是错的,什么是好的,什么是坏的即使深知有些习惯不好,但是又做不到放弃这些坏习惯,真正控制思维是一项非常难的任务。

Most of us know what is right, what is wrong or what is good what is bad. However we could not give up many bad habits, even though we understand they are bad. Really controlling the mind is a very difficult task.

不要担心幸运的是,有一种方法可以控制思维,这种方法不是别的,就是练习瑜伽。瑜伽是控制思维的技巧。这也就是为什么帕坦伽利将瑜伽定义为“Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodhah”,意思是“控制思维的波动就是瑜伽”。为了控制思维,他给出了(在《瑜伽经》中)阿斯汤嘎瑜伽(八分支瑜伽),他们分别是持戒、内制、体位、调息、控感、专注、冥想和三摩地。

Don't worry. Fortunately, there is a way to control the mind. The way is nothing but practicing of yoga. Yoga is the technique of mind controlled. That is why, Maharishi Patanjali define yoga as “Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodhah”. Means, “To Control the fluctuation of mind is Yoga”. In order to control the mind, he gives (in Yoga Sutra) Ashtanga Yoga (eight limbs of Yoga). They are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayma, Pratyhara, Concentration, Meditation and Samadhi.

 

在哈他瑜伽的书中也写到,不用担心思维的控制,只需要控制你的Prana(能量),而Prana(能量)是通过练习调息控制的。从以上两种观点(帕坦伽利瑜伽和哈他瑜伽)得出,说调息是控制思维的瑜伽技巧并不为过。

 

It is also written in Hatha Yoga books that don't worry about mind control, just control your Prana. And prana is controlled by the practice of pranayama. From this above both views (Patanjali’s and Hatha Yoga), It will not be wrong to say that Pranayama is one of the yogic technique to control the mind.

什么是思维?

思维是一系列个人认知能力,尤其反映在想法、感知、情绪、判断、意愿、记忆力和想象力方面,它是指引和影响思维和身体行为的有意识和无意识过程,思维是思考、推理和应用知识的能力。

Mind is the set of cognitive faculties of an individual that is manifested especially in thought, perception, emotions, judgment, will, memory and imagination. It is the collective consciousness and unconsciousness process that direct and influence mental and physical behavior. Mind is the faculty of thinking, reasoning and applying knowledge.

 

思维和身体的关系:

就如我们所知,思维很精微,是整个身体中最出色的部分,它影响着其它器官和系统的功能。人体的状况也反过来影响思维的状态,简单而言,思维和身体相互影响。正是因为这个原因,身体的疾病常常影响思维,思维的疾病或紧张不安也常常影响身体。

As we know mind is subtle and finest body within the gross body. The mind, being the finest part of the body influence the functions other organs and system of the body. The condition of human body also effects the state of mind. In simple word, mind and body are influenced one another. It is for this reason that physical illness often affects the mind and mental illness or tension often affects the body.

医学上也赞同70%的身体疾病来源于思维问题,比如压力、焦虑、抑郁。每一种身体疾病都有压力或情绪等思想问题。为了生活得健康,我们不得不控制思维,将思维维持在稳定的状态,不受任何情形、状况和环境的影响。

Medical science also agreed that 70% of physical illnesses are originated from the mental problems like stress, anxiety, depression. Every physical illness has some mental problems like stress or emotions. In order to live and healthy life, we have to control our mind and we have to develop a stable state of mind which cannot be affected by any situation, conditions and circumstances.

 

什么是呼吸?


呼吸是天持续地吸气和呼气的恒定过程,是吸进氧气呼出二氧化碳的过程,正是因为呼吸,身体细胞才能通过呼吸系统获得氧气。呼吸既是自愿行为,又是非自愿行为,这就意味着在正常时间,呼吸自己无意识地工作(非自愿行为),但是我们又可以持续地控制呼吸以达到屏息、深入呼吸或短促呼吸(自愿行为)。

Breathing is a constant process where you breathe in and out constantly throughout the day. It is a process of taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. Because of breathing, cells of the body get the oxygen through respiratory system. Breathing is both a voluntary and involuntary action. It means that in normal time breathe works itself unconsciously (involuntary action), but we can consciously control the breath (voluntary action) by holding or deepening or shortening.

什么是Prana(普拉纳)?

Prana(普拉纳)指的是能量,有生和无生生命中包含的每种能量都叫做Prana(普拉纳)。我们的能量用于自愿行为(骨骼肌行为)和非自愿行为(消化、血液循环等),这些行为所需的能量由Prana(普拉纳)提供。Prana(普拉纳)为每一个细胞、组织、器官和系统提供能量。生命始于Prana(普拉纳),当我们死去时,Prana(普拉纳)又离开身体。没有Prana(普拉纳)就没有生命,因此,Prana(普拉纳)也被叫做生命力。

Prana means energy. Every energy contained in both living and non living things a called Prana.We need the energy for both voluntary (skeleton muscular activities) and involutary actions (digestion, circulations etc).  These energies are provided by Prana. Prana supply the energy to each and every cells, tissues, organs and systems of the body.  Life is started with prana. When we die, prana leaves the body again. Life is impossible without Prana. Therefore, prana is called life force.

调息如何帮助控制思维?

prana(普拉纳)变动,chitta(思维)也开始变动。当prana(普拉纳)静止不动,也chitta(思维)静止。基于这一点(prana的稳定),瑜伽修行者获得稳定(思维),因此应该控制住vayu(气)。

—《哈他瑜伽之光》第二章第二节

 

When prana moves, chitta (the mental force) moves. When prana without movement, chitta is without movement. By this (steadiness of prana) the yogi attains steadiness and should thus retain the vayu (air).       - 2/2 Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

从《哈他瑜伽之光》这句经文中我们知道,Prana(普拉纳)和思维是相互关联的,如果思维变动,Prana(普拉纳)也会跟着变动,其中一个波动就意味着另一个的波动。但是控制思维是一项非常困难的任务,有人说,控制思维就像驯服一只猴子,就像野猴子从一个枝头跳到另一个枝头一样,我们的思维每分每秒都波动不止,甚至在冥想期间,很多想法都意想不到地出现在头脑中。因此,控制思维非常困难。

From this verses of Hatha Yoga Pradipika, we can tell the prana and mind are interrelated. If the mind moves, our prana follows. Fluctuation of one means fluctuation of others. However, controlling the mind is very difficult task. It is said that, control the mind is same with taming a wild monkey. As the wild monkey jumps from one branch of tree to another, our mind is also roaming here and there every second, every minute. Even during period of meditation, many thoughts come to the mind unexpectedly. Control the mind, therefore, is a very difficult task.

那么如何控制思维呢?有很多控制思维的技巧,但是最容易的一种是控制prana(普拉纳),prana(普拉纳)可以通过练习调息来控制,调息是调节、扩展和控制能量的简单方法。控制了prana(普拉纳)反过来就控制了思维。调息就是控制呼吸。

So how to control the mind ? there are many techniques of mind control. But easiest technique is to control the prana. And Prana can be controlled by practing the prananyama. Pranayama is an easy technique to regulate, expand and control the prana. Controlling the prana in turns controls the mind again. And Pranayama is done with the controlling of breath.

这就是为什么,《哈他瑜伽之光》第二章第二节第三句中讲:基于这一点(prana的稳定),瑜伽修行者获得稳定(思维),因此应该控制住vayu(气)。意思是,prana(普拉纳)的稳定保证了稳定(思维),为了这个目的,一个人应该控制呼吸或者屏息。

That is why, Hatha Yoga Pradipika advocate that. By this (steadiness of prana) the yogi attain steadiness (of mind) and should thus retain the vayu (air).  - 3rd sentence of 2/2 Hatha Yoga pradipika.It means that, Steadiness of prana gives the steadiness (of mind) and for this purpose one should control or retain the breath.

 

生理学角度:

呼吸过程直接和神经系统相关,缓慢而深入的呼吸通过神经系统让器官和系统放松。当身体的器官和系统放松时,带给大脑的脉冲也很和缓,可以让思维冷静。通过意识到呼吸以及控制呼吸的本质,一个人就可以控制身体的系统,也让脑电波模式和谐。

The breathing process is directly nervous system. Slow and deep breathing gives the relaxation to the organs and systems of the body through the nervous system. When the organs and systems of the body are relaxed, it gives creates smoothing impulses to the brain. It can calm down the mind. By becoming aware of the nature of the breath and retaining the breath, one can control the systems of the body and one can harmonize the brain wave patterns.

呼吸也和下丘脑有联系,下丘脑是大脑控制情绪反映的中心。那就是为什么我们的思维紧张或我们面临艰难情形时,呼吸频率会自动增加;当思维平静时,呼吸频率也降低,当我们保持缓慢的呼吸或者屏息时,我们的思维也会自动静下来。

Breath also has some connection with the hypothalamus, the brain center which controls the emotional responses. That is why when our mind has got tensed, or we face a difficult situation our respiratory rate is increased automatically and when our mind is calmed down, our respiratory rate slow down. When we maintain slow breathing or retain the breath, our mind is automatically calmed down.

 

从呼吸、prana(普拉纳)和思维的关系中,圣人或者大神通过练习调息来控制思维。调息是为了控制prana(普拉纳,生命力)而控制呼吸的技巧,从而控制思维。持续地练习调息帮助提升思维的稳定性。控制呼吸(调息)是控制思维最容易的方法。但是调息应该跟随有经验的老师学习,否则可能给身体带来伤害。

From this relationship between breath, prana and mind, saint and sages control their mind through the practice of pranayama. Pranayama is a yogic technique of restraining the breath in order to get control of the prana (vital force) and then in turn, mind. Regular practice of pranayama helps to develop a stable of mind. And controlling the breath (pranayama) is the easiest way to control the mind. But Pranayama should be learnt from a experienced teacher, otherwise it may harm to your body.
